Formby Ravens Coaches

Joan Shavaksha

Joan qualified as a level 1 coach in foil, epee and sabre in 1989 with the A.F.A and as a club coach level 2 (foil) in 1993. This was revalidated in 2009 by British Fencing. She also has certificates in coaching wheelchair fencers, mental health in sport and a diploma in sports psychology "Coach to Win" from Newcastle College. She also has experience in teaching fencers with special needs and strongly believes in equal opportunities for all in sport.

Laurence Pritchard

Laurence is a level 1 fencing coach with the British Academy of Fencing and is a member of the British Fencing Association. Laurence decided to take up fencing at night school in Childwall, south Liverpool, when he was in his early 20s and has been a keen recreational fencer for over 30 years since. Laurence joined Formby Ravens when he moved to Formby in the mid-1990s.

Paul Michell

Paul is a level 2 épée coach with the British Academy of Fencing. He is a keen club fencer who has enjoyed recreational foil and épée for many years at a number of different clubs across the region. He is keen to promote the sport and works in several schools and clubs locally. At Formby Ravens Paul assists with the coaching when needed by Joan and Laurence.
